Countdown to 60

Aging on my terms - Daily musings in 500 words or so

Are you on my team?

My assignment this week for the Transform program is to gather my team.

Each week the program starts with a Life Lesson video to watch and consider. This week it is “Rally your Team”. The guidelines for this are to gather the people I feel safe declaring my goals and commitments.

Also the people who will hold me accountable, and who I can lean on to confess and unload my emotional baggage. That last one made me laugh. I have been doing that here for the last eight months!

Lastly, I am supposed to gather people on my team that notice me, care about me and will genuinely support my transformation. I’m supposed to make a list of these people.

Are you on that list?

I know my family and close friends accept me and support me. Looking them in the eyes and I can see it. But I can’t do that with you.

Do you have a team of people supporting you?

My best friend is on my team!

Putting time and energy into someone else’s success might be too difficult for you. I get that. It’s all about what works for you, as an individual, in this moment. So it’s okay if you aren’t on the list.

But if you are on my team, let me know. I will ask you to support me, encourage me, listen to me, and finally be happy for me. I like this “diet” and it’s working for me. It reminds me of how I’ve eaten most of my life.

And if you’d like me to be on your team, let me know. I keep saying, “let’s do this together”, and I’m sincere about that.

So if you’re in, let’s do this together.

  1. I’m with ya! You can do this! I’m transforming my diet too and it does take some support! Along with your eye on your goal. Mine is healthier body inside and out!
    In it to win!

  2. So happy to hear that you have found what works for you! If there is one thing I have realized in my 40+ years of yo-yo dieting, is that what works for me today, may not work for me tomorrow! However, as long as I have a breath, I will continue to search out ways to be happier and healthier.
Maybe I will never get where I want to be, but I’m not giving up! I’m on your team, Loretta, because we all need cheerleaders! An old friend and fellow classmate of ours, reached out to me after 40 years and has been a great encouragement at a point when I was ready to throw in the towel.
I do not have any answers to a permanent weight loss, but I am on your side and only wish the best for you!!

Thank you Mary. One of the very BEST things that has come from this blog, is the reconnection with old classmates. I never stayed in touch with anyone after I moved from Michigan, and to be able to find and truly connect with you and others has been so wonderful.

I totally agree with the part about what works today, may not tomorrow. I think that was one of my problems losing weight. I kept thinking “I could always, easily lose weight doing…”, but it wasn’t working at 54!

Thanks for being on my team Mary! I’m with you too, my friend.

  3. I’m on your team, all the way. It’s hard to make healthier living a reality (I am struggling with the same thing), we can all use all the support we can get.
