Aging on my terms - Daily musings in 500 words or so

Discovery and other scary stuff

As a blogger I, spend a fair amount of time looking at other women’s blog posts. And since there are about 200 million blogs out there, it can be a daunting task finding the ones that are of interest to me.

Most of the blogs I find are about fashion or lifestyle and it’s easy to scroll through the big photos showing us the latest style. I’ve also found blogs that are pretty confusing and busy and I get lost quickly.

And then there are the ones that I love/hate. I love them because they are so well written and draw me in, and I hate them because they are so well written and draw me in.   😉

My first reaction is how much I love the post and then the second is, ‘I’m not this good’. Which then brings up the whole, ‘what the hell am I doing’ and ‘who the hell said I could write’ thing?

But the bigger issue is I have to catch myself from copying them. Not in a plagiarism sort of way, but more of a ‘what she said’ sort of way. These women have great ideas! And, man I wish I would’ve thought of that!

This morning I discovered a blog and I like it so much I want to share it with you. Jessica is an amazing writer/poet who is funny and witty and entertaining.

If you get a chance, take a look around her site, Vinegar and Vanilla; I think you’ll enjoy it.

Vinegar and Vanilla

And I’ll try to remember that I’m good with the way I write or that I didn’t think of it first. I’ll bet I’m not the only one who has moments of self-doubt and have learned that the trick is to keep moving forward.

So today I am going to enjoy someone else’s work, share it, and then keep moving forward on mine.

Thank you Lea! I hate how quickly I can go to self-doubt, but I’m learning to slow it down, and hope to stop it all together. Thank you for reading, and sharing your thoughts. 🙂

  2. I feel you. I’m just designing my site and I have the same questions. But instead of second guessing myself I’m just going to dive in without any expectations. Wonderful books would never be written if the authors thought the same thing. Think about it. Of all the people in this country let’s say, there has to be others that have written on the same topic. Whether other people think I can write is none of my business. I am writing for me and if it resonates in others that’s a wonderful thing but if nobody reads my blog well that’s ok too because I’m doing it for me. Don’t question yourself just write what’s important to you and don’t worry about what other people are doing because there are a lot of great authors and lots of designers and lots of entrepreneurs selling the same shit others are selling but it doesn’t stop them from pursuing their dreams. Stop trolling other sites and just write. I’m done. Just my two cents. ❤️❤️

Ha! I just found this comment in my spam folder! lol… I don’t troll other sites 🙁 I do however read posts that I am interested in. I like that I do that, and I am so happy that I’ve found other wonderful bloggers because of it.

  3. OK, first of all THANK YOU for a) reading my blog b) liking it (!!!) and c) sharing it! Seriously, that is like the writer trifecta! 😉

I have so much to say about the whole “dang I wished I wrote like that” emotion, so perhaps you have just provided me with fodder for my next post!

Luckily, Santa Barbara is not so far away that I can’t buy you a glass of bubbly as thanks someday!

You are so welcome. Loved that I found you and what you write…my kind of stuff. Would be fun to get together and have that glass (or two). 😉
