Loretta's Countdown to 60

Aging on my terms - Daily musings in 500 words or so

I’m just so busy

How many times a day do you hear someone say they are so busy? Or a better question is, how many times a day are you saying it?

We have become this society that thrives on being “too busy”….and then complaining about it. I honestly don’t know one person who doesn’t say they are busy. Why do you think that is?

Maybe it’s all a mindset?

Let’s all take a deep breath and not be too busy for a few minutes.

Then write down all the things you “need” to get done. Put them in order of urgency, and do the first thing on the list and then move on to the next. You’ll be surprised how quickly your ‘have-to’s’ get done, and then you can get onto your ‘want-to’s’.

Finding time to just stop and enjoy the views – Being too busy isn’t good for our souls.

Let’s take the phrase “so busy” out of our vocabulary and stop and enjoy life along the way.

  1. I also think being “so busy” validates us in some way. It sounds like we are needed.

  2. I think being “so busy” validates us. It makes us feel needed. We women like to feel needed. I’ve been noticing this lately. Just for the record…I’m not too busy. I’m active and I like that – but I’ve been busy in the past and I’m not now.

I think you are right Cindy. It’s a way of saying “I’m important” too.

  3. Yes that’s a habit many of us need to break! Iv’e been guilty in the past…..;)

  4. I’m the first to admit that I’m not busy but, like Cindy, I’m active and engaged in my life. If I say to people I’m not busy though, their first reaction is to protest, like I’m putting myself down. I think people equate busy with good and think that the opposite of busy is lazy – but I’m certainly not lazy and I think lazy is the opposite of hardworking. What’s the opposite of busy then? I’m think, maybe, relaxed?

I think you are right, Wendy, on all accounts. People do think of busy as “good”.
I agree with you about the opposite of lazy too…my mom was a stickler on us not being lazy. But she meant we were to be hardworking. Relaxed sounds about right for the opposite of busy. I have a friend who is always getting things done, but she is relaxed and smiling all the time!
