First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes…

The day after our wedding we left our hotel in San Francisco to go explore the city. It was a beautiful spring day, and we were excited to spend the day together as husband and wife.

Our wedding was everything we hoped it to be, and we were still on a love-high we wanted to bask in for as long as possible.

Our wedding at San Francisco City Hall

My phone rang as we stepped out onto the sidewalk and I answered immediately. My son and daughter-in-law were due to have daughter number two any day, and we were happily assigned to take care of daughter number one while they were at the hospital.

Summer Vacations from our Childhood

Did you ever spend summer vacations at your Grandparents house?

I never did. I mean, we went there to visit, but I don’t remember staying at their place for a week or even a few days without my parents.

We did, however, have fun during our summers growing up, and I loved it when we played Hide and Seek outside until way after sunset. And we always had a great time at the beach.  Continue reading

Ten Days with Granddaughters

I’m going to have to keep this short. You remember I mentioned we have our granddaughters with us, right?

It’s really not easy to write when a five-year old is talking….a lot. She has something to say about everything. And I mean everything. Her Dad was the same (sorry to rat you out Noah).

I remember when my boys were young and we were on our way back home from visiting my sister-in-law in the hospital. I’d forgotten his binky when we left the house that morning. Later, the 20 minute drive back was not fun.

He was tired and wanted that binky.

Healthy lifestyles of the young and restless

Finding time to blog with two “young and restless” girls is a challenge for sure.

We have been busy with boogie boarding, skateboarding, shopping, playgrounds, picnics, duckies, turtles and climbing trees.

Weekend – It’s Nana time!

I was away from home all last week, and I’m back now to pick up our granddaughters for some Nana time!

We always have so much fun with those two girls, and I’m looking forward to having them here for ten days.

When I was a kid, we didn’t have summer breaks with grandparents, as summers were spent working. But we did have a lot of fun, just the same. Summer was filled with swimming and playing outside until after dark, picnics and ice cream, and lots of exploring.

Our time with the girls will be filled with lots of adventure and the best part is, they bring out the kids in us too.

May your weekend be filled with summer fun and may you find time to be a kid again.

Weekend – Spoil

We have our granddaughters for the weekend. We get to spoil have them because their mom and dad are busy, so we are on duty.

And on our way to pick them up, we decided to stop in Studio City and visit the Dr. Martens store. I need a new pair of riding boats, and Doc Martens are the best.

John’s riding boots are about ten years old and he still loves them, and wanted to get me a pair too. How could I say no? Continue reading

Weekend – Beach life

I grew up on the beaches of Lake Michigan and I have been a beach lover ever since. It took me a few years, as in 30 plus, to move back to a beach town.

And I love it.

I grew up on a beach and it's in my soul

Weekend – Celebration!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you lovely moms out there! I hope you all enjoy a day (or two) of celebration.

This weekend was my birthday party and Mother’s Day celebration, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. My son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters arrived Friday night and by early Saturday morning, the festivities began with a wonderful home cooked breakfast.

Truly one of the best things about getting older is having my adult kids as friends. We have the best laughs and enjoy sitting at the table together, talking and joking around, long after the food is gone.

April is the month of the Military Child

I would love to write the perfect post to describe what it is like for children of the military, but I’ve never been one. My children didn’t have Military parents either.

But my granddaughters do.

Happy Birthday to youth

Yesterday I posted my Wednesday “Let’s do this together” video. Each week I like to share some little tidbit about exercise or diet that I have gleaned from my week. And yesterday’s post was about trying to get enough exercise while on the road.

Have you ever toured or stayed on the Queen Mary, in Long Beach, CA? Continue reading

Sweet distractions…

okay, okay I really meant to write a blog post today! I even had an idea of what I wanted to share.

But then this happened:

What do you think? Did I make the right decision?

I hope you are making great choices!
