Eager to leave our hotel in Dublin, we set out Sunday morning for Birr. John’s family lives in County Offaly and we were excited to be going back for a visit. But in Ireland, it’s easy to get distracted while meandering the countryside.
We had a little time to kill, and John mentioned he’d like to take me to this little town at the end of Lough Derg, on the River Shannon. As he was driving, he told me to put Port Laoise into our GPS. Oh, and it’s pronounced “Leash”. Continue reading
I have a love hate relationship with flying. I love that I can jet across the world in relatively little time. But I’m not fond of the actual flying experience.
Walking past the business class section on our Aer Lingus flight I got a painful reminder we were in the cheap seats. Our seats wouldn’t be 22” wide and fully recline into a bed.
We had two normal seats with the rest of the passengers who spent a good portion of their savings to fly to Ireland. The layout of the Boeing 757 is good, because we had our two seats together without having a stranger in a third seat next to us. Continue reading
It’s vacation time!
By the time this post is published, we should be landing in Dublin, Ireland for the start of our vacation!
View from our trip in 2013
I’ve always enjoyed journaling when traveling, so I hope to be able to share my journal here with you during our trip. Of course, I will be enjoying the views, time with John’s family, and exploring lots of castles and pubs.
Have a wonderful weekend, and may you have an amazing view!
Where would you go?
Happy Friday dear readers! If you haven’t already, please join me on my Facebook Page. Thank you!
I hope you aren’t expecting any advice here, because I hate packing for a trip.
I agonize over what to bring and not bring. I try on all of my clothes to see how I feel in each outfit, and a bunch end up on the floor. I’ve tried to pick outfits that will mix and match with each other, but I’m not very good at it.
Shopping before the trip – exhausting!
It seems that I inevitably bring either way too much or not enough clothes. And don’t even get me started on shoes. How do I decide which ones to bring?
I used to tell myself I couldn’t afford to go on a vacation abroad. And you know what? I was right.
Whatever we tell ourselves, it’s true.
Well, at least to the point of believing limitations should stop one from going on a dream vacation. So, I decided to change my thinking.
I now believe I can go anywhere in the world.
“She was a Day Tripper, one way ticket yeah”….
And by one way, I mean no backtracking!
It’s time to dust off the big bike and take it for a ride. John mapped out a fun loop to take today, and we are just about ready to hop on and go. We both love to find routes that take us on a loop, instead of coming back the way we went.
Ready for our day trip!
Let’s take the long way home
I hope your weekend has a little adventure in store for you. And that you “take the long way home, uh yeah, take the long way home.”
Some weekends are all about fun and games!
We have the grandkids (and their parents) here this weekend, and we are having a blast. We hit the Moxi, kids museum here in Santa Barbara and us big kids had as much fun as the young ones.
Fun inside a video game!
After lunch it was off to the beach.
A bit windy but a great time at the beach!
I hope your weekend is FILLED with fun and games!
We are on our way to spend Easter Weekend with John’s kids and mother! Hippity Hoppity
Hopping down the bunny trail!
Are you traveling to spend Easter weekend with family? Is there an Easter Egg Hunt in your near future?
I hope you eat chocolate and find treasures this weekend!
Yesterday I posted my Wednesday “Let’s do this together” video. Each week I like to share some little tidbit about exercise or diet that I have gleaned from my week. And yesterday’s post was about trying to get enough exercise while on the road.
On the road again!
My husband, John ran the LA Marathon on Sunday and we decided to stay in the area together for his work week. I’ve tagged along to Big Bear and we are now in Long Beach, staying onboard The Queen Mary.

You know when you get something new and it becomes the favorite thing?
It get’s put at the top of the list and you almost forget the other things you love.
Every since we got our new bike, it has been the favorite new toy. And we have really enjoyed it!
running around the state on our new big bike
In January we pretty much spent every weekend on that bike. But this weekend we thought we’d dust off our other two wheelers and have some fun. Continue reading
I’ve had a few people ask how we do it. How do we manage to do so many fun things and take so many trips? I’ve even had a few assume we must have a lot of money, which made me laugh.
One of the great things about getting to 50 and beyond is we’ve had so many different experiences and life changes. For me, I’ve had it all, and lost it all, more than once.
I learned awhile back that possessing things isn’t important to me. Having lost all my “things” during the housing crisis taught me the most important lesson I’ve learned in life.
“You can take away my things, but you can’t take away my experiences.”
The Santa Ana winds are kicking up, bringing us warm weather…so you know what that means?
We are off to explore the countryside, via motorcycle.
The great thing about this bike is, we can bring our overnight bags and let the road take us where it will.
I hope your weekend takes you to amazing places!
It’s a sunny, 75 degree day and the road is calling!
I hope your Saturday brings you down the most amazing road. Happy Weekend!
When heading to a destination, I’m generally the kind of person who wants to take the fastest route there. I even get a sense that I have to be in a hurry, because I want to get to where ever we are going, as fast as possible.
I realize I do that in my everyday life. Hurry.
John and I headed up to San Francisco yesterday to celebrate his Mother’s birthday today. San Francisco is my favorite city, and I always enjoy coming here.
As a matter of fact, John and I got married at City Hall, and it always brings back wonderful memories of that time. Every time we visit, I get a sense of awe.
This morning we took a brisk walk to City Hall:

Always fun to visit City Hall when we go to San Francisco
I hope your weekend is filled with wonder and awe.
What a busy time of year!
This month started out with a fire that would ultimately turn into the largest fire in California history. We were busy traveling to the East Coast to help my youngest son and his family pack up, graduate from Test Pilot School, and move across the country.
Throw in Christmas and escaping from The Thomas Fire, and you can see how things may have gotten a bit crazy for a while.
But the fun is not over.
We are heading out to Halloween in the Garden. Just me and the girls!! Have a great Saturday!
